Dario Argento's first movie and, frankly, one of his most dull.
It's all very familiar now as he has retrodden the same ground frequently throughout his career, and this, to my knowledge, is one of the first examples of 'giallo', the 'whodunit' style horror thriller made in Italy throughout the 70's and early 80's featuring an unknown serial killer, normally clad in black leather gloves, stalking and offing innocents one by one.
As ever with Argento's work, it is a case of style over substance, as the plot itself is confused.
A writer is being stalked by the sinister glove wearer after witnessing the attempted murder of a woman.
But frankly, the plot doesn't really matter, as this is all about build up, atmosphere, and the stylish direction, imbuing even the most mundane scenes with a sense of menace.
Interesting historically, though there are far better Argento works out there.
