This confused the bejeesus out of me.
You know, I think my IQ may finally have started to deteriorate from massive consumption of industrial strength alcohol. You know the type. The brands that come in black cans, with red lettering, the manufacturers good enough to apply nature's colour scheme warning of venom and poisons to their products:
For the second time in as many weeks I have watched a movie, been pretty entertained, yet not had the slightest idea what was going on.
Last week it was Ju-on, this week it's Day Watch.
Both subtitled, too, so maybe there's a connection....
Here we see a continuation of the war from the first movie being waged between the darkness and the light, mankind caught in the middle, for the most part unaware of the epic battle raging around them.
Stylistically this is flashy, high paced stuff, the director's advertisement pedigree there for all to see, with little time to focus on such trivialities as narrative and character development, instead focusing on style and verve.
And good at it he is too.
Lacking a real jaw-dropping moment that captivates as in the first chapter - the yellow van performing a back flip over a chasing car - the action is nevertheless pulse pounding, both the car bound and fist flailing variety.
I can't say I loved it, nor do I have any great desire to watch it again, but I am always keen to encourage others to check out movies originating in radically different cultures. Interesting, if flawed.
