Favourite line:"We are the kindred of God. We have no business with the serpents."

Spine tingling slasher.
Wes 'A Nightmare on Elm Street' Craven here serves up a genuinely spooky slasher, chock full of invention, thrills and spills.

Set in an Amish community, this sees an insular world struggling to deal with the relentless encroachment of modern society, and resenting anything or anyone that may despoil their idyllic, Ye Olde Worlde lifestyle. The Amish setting is truly inspired as, peaceable and calm as they are, there is definitely something sinister about them (racial stereotyping over, folks!)

With atmosphere in abundance, this ratchets up the tension as creepy set piece after creepy set piece sets your nerves on edge.
Every ingredient that a quality slasher should have is in place: suspence, violence, gore, nudity, creepy-crawlies, Messianic proclivities, and each element is executed with confidence by one of the masters of horror.
Included in the nastiness is a forerunner to the 'Freddy in the bath' sequence from 'Nightmare', as well as a very early appearance by Sharon Stone.
Well acted, with a script that is way above average for the genre, this is a very good slasher indeed.
