Favourite line: | "I think you're the fucking Antichrist." |
Donnie Darko is an adolescent who is just a little bit different.
A troubled school life and home life is exacerbated by the fact that he keeps receiving visitations from an alien / presence dressed in a giant demonic bunny suit. The visitor informs him that the world is going to end in the very near future. On top of this, Donnie sees tubes of shimmering liquid light emerging from people's chests, apparently plotting their path into the future.
Throw in paedophilia, teen romance, and one of the best scenes in movie history - "I think you're the fucking Antichrist" - and what you have is an absolute monster of a movie. Intense, funny, disturbing and complex, this is a film that pushes at the boundaries of what is possible to achieve in movie making.
You won't forget this one in a hurry, and this stands up to multiple viewings. I've seen this four or five times now and I still haven't completely figured the ending out.
