Rating:5/5
IMDB link:http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0080749/
Tagline:What you can't see won't hurt you... it'll kill you!
Favourite line:"April 21: The deed is done. Blake followed our false fire on shore and the ship broke apart on the rocks off Spivey Point. We were aided by an unearthly fog that rolled in, as if Heaven sent, although God had no part in our actions tonight."

Arguably Carpenter's best movie, though oft overshadowed by its more famous older cousin, Halloween.
With mood and menace aplenty, the plot follows the events in a small California town, where one night a strange fog rolls in from the sea. Contained within the fog are the ghosts of ancient mariners, seeking revenge for wrongs committed to them by the townsfolk some 100 years ago.
Spooky, atmospheric and just damn frightening at times, this is a superior slice of American horror.
Carpenter never quite reached these peaks again, though he did get close from time to time.
