Desperately average remake of a genuine classic.
I can barely be bothered to write anything here as, essentially, what we have is the same film only nowhere near as good.
Sean Bean makes for a good villain in the form of John Ryder, but his was a poisoned chalice as no-one could have outshone Rutger.
The lead 'goodies' are likeable enough, I suppose, though they are far too good looking for my liking. At least C. Thomas Howell was a bit on the ugly side, adding to the fear factor as it implied 'This could be you.' When the beautiful people are imperiled in modern Hollywood horror, it doesn't feel real somehow as the events are taking place to someone that might as well belong to a different species, so flawless are they. Indeed, at times you find yourself rooting for some form of disfigurement to occur to render them a little more normal.
Anyway, the only real novelty value comes from the occasional gender flip, whereby things that happened to Howell or Jason Leigh in the original, now happen to the opposing character.
That aside, don't bother with this.
Get the original instead because that one is truly fantastic.
