The original and the best. Craven's slasher introduces the horror icon Freddy Krueger who would terrorize a generation. This is the one before the snappy one liners and the multi-plex pleasing rock or dance cheese soundtracks. Freddy is genuinely menacing, and the death sequences are superb. And besides, any film where you get to see Johnny Depp liquified has to be worth a look. Creepy and provocative. A classic.
