Based on a Stephen King short story, and he is back on familiar ground with this tale of yet another inanimate object becoming possessed by some form of demonic force.
Robert 'Freddie Krueger' Englund plays the chief human antagonist as the owner of an industrial laundry, the centrepiece of which is a giant mangle, all gnashing gears and moving parts.
In a scene so contrived you may have to watch it again just to be sure, the machine gets a splash of virgin's blood over it, and next thing you know it's hungry for more. Englund's character is wrapped up in it somehow, as he uses the vitality of the young virgins the machine devours to sustain him.
It's all very silly and unclear, and the denoument is simply preposterous.
There's next to no tension, and only two or three moments of note - the machine folding someone like a sheet, the guy being ripped in two - and overall, it gets pretty tedious as the main characters scream and screech their way to the headache inducing climax.
Directed by none other than Tobe Hooper (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre) I found this a real let down.
