Year:1978
Country of origin:USA
Director:Don Taylor
Genre:Satanic Offspring From Hell!!!
Starring:William Holden, Lee Grant, Jonathan Scott-Taylor
Rating:3/5
IMDB link:http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0077394/
Tagline:The first time was only a warning.
Favourite line:"The boy has got to die!"

Eveyone's favourite spawn of Satan returns, and 'e's all growed up now, and enrolled in some hideously fascistic looking military academy for the rich and deluded.
Leo McKern, erswhile purveyor of the deadly daggers from the first movie, is offed in the first few minutes, but not before he can ensure that a small chest containing the secrets of Damien are passed onto his current foster parent's, who happen to be the brother of his 'real' Dad (human, not jackal) and his wife. It soon transpires that, interwoven into the fabric of Damien's life are people who know his true identity, and are guiding him towards the time when his full powers will assert themselves, and the time of the Dark Lord's arising beckons.

Treading the always dangerous line in sequels of upping the bodycount, this is more a mish-mash of set-pieces than a bonafide story in its own right.
The set pieces are good, don't get me wrong, but the story that binds them (shenanigans at Thorn Industries, the foster husband's initial reluctance to accept Damien's devilish nature, the enquiring minds delving into the truth) is shallow and dispensable.
Lacking the gravitas of the original and, ultimately, it's sheer class, this is a desperately inferior sequel.
I would watch it again though, if that doesn't serve only to confuse.
