Favourite line:"She knew it was an abomination."

Passable screen version of one of Stephen King's best books.
The book is genuinely disturbing, and this nearly succeeds in places.
The probem is there are too many things left either unexplained completely, or explained in a very minor way.
Why is the girl dreaming about what is going on hundreds of miles away?
What does the ghost have to do with anything, and why is he helping them?
Anyway, minor gripes aside, this is a reasonably effective chiller, with some nasty gory moments, and a really likeable supporting character in the form of Jud Crandall, played by Fred Gwynne who is best known for playing Herman Munster in the TV series The Munsters.
An ok way to pass an hour and a half.
