Favourite line:"This house is clean."

Tobe Hooper's tour de force accessible horror movie, produced by Spielberg (and, by all accounts, his interference was a major problem between the two of them).

A family move into a brand new house in the suburbs which was, ooops, built on the site of an ancient Indian burial ground.
Don't you just hate it when that shit happens?
Soon after moving in, odd things start happening: The dog barks at nothing, the little girl claims to see things in the static on the TV, and furniture is moving of its own accord. Soon, a team of parapsychologists are on the case, and discover that the souls of the buried are angry at the violation of their sacred ground.

Effectively handled with some great effects, even by todays standards - the face peeling moment is my personal favourite - and good performances all round, this is about as good as Hollywood horror gets.
Love it.
