Favourite line:"He said, 'I can smell your cunt.'"

This is actually a lot better than I remembered.
I think the fact that it was pitched as a horror raised my expectations in terms of gore and nastiness, so disappointed on first viewing. Indeed, as a horror experience, this leaves a lot to be desired, but if viewed asa straight thriller there is a lot to be enjoyed.
Anthony Hopkins is excellent as Hannibal Lector, the cannibalistic serial killer with a penchant for the finer things in life. Equally, Jodie Foster is perfectly cast as the fledgling FBI forensics agent.
The high points of the movie come when the pair interact.
The plot - Foster's Agent Starling is sent by her boss to interview Lector, with a view to gaining his confidence so that he can aid them in their search for a notorious serial killer still at large, dubbed Buffalo Bill by the media.
As it transpires, Lector and Buffalo Bill are no strangers to each other, and Starling ultimately comes face to face with the killer, whose depraved leanings include the savage butchery and skinning of women, and he has a particular taste for the larger lady.
Some good dialogue and a nice line in the macabre make this a very satisfying movie, though not the masterpiece many would have you believe.
Still, I enjoyed it more than I expected to.
