Stunningly original Japanese sci-fi horror movie.
It’s the near future, and the Japanese have decided that their youth are out of control. As a result, for punishment, each year a school class is selected at random under new social rulings known as The Battle Royale Act. The Act declares that the selected class will be taken to a remote island, each member will be given a weapon, and the winner of the competition will be the last one to survive. The game will continue annually until the youth learn to respect law, order and their elders.
Sinister, frightening and emotive, this caused some controversy becuaee of its subject matter upon release.
Amazing movie-making.
