Pretty confused and unlikeable sequel to one of the surprise sci-fi hits of the early noughties - Pitch Black.
This one dispenses with tension and fear, opting instead for portension and pomposity. It is desperately trying to be Dune, and just gets nowhere near the mark.
The Special FX, as expected, are excellent, but heh, you can't polish a turd.
And besides, asking Vin Diesel to carry a movie is like asking Professor Stephen Hawkins to perform a karaoke version of Killing Me Softly - good for a laugh but ultimately disappointing.
A shame, as the original is a cracker.
