One of those movies that so entrenches itself into the zeitgeist that it has actually spawned a phrase.
How many times have you heard people say "It was like Groundhog Day?" and the point is, everyone knows what that means.

The premise therefore doesn't need explaining. The tale is essentially one of consequences, a karmic message explaining that everything goes around, and if you are mean to people, it will come and bite you on the arse one day.
Or maybe everyday if you keep reliving the same one.
Any schmaltz factor is thankfully alleviated by Bill Murray's cynicism, and his ascerbic delivery ensures that this doesn't feel too Hollywood.
A good, intelligent comedy.
