The production company The Asylum are garnering quite the reputation cashing in on big budget movies with similarly titled, similarly themed B-movies.
And here's another.
After Transmorphers and The Da Vinci Treasure we have I Am Omega, an amalgamation of The Omega Man and I Am Legend, which can be thought of as the less well heeled older sibling to the Will Smith mega-hit.
So is it any good?
Well, the first half of the movie is actually remarkably effective, as Mark Dacascos' Renchard (not Robert Neville as in both book and reputable movies) lives in isolation in the ruined city, fending off mutants as he strives to survive all the while, apparently, losing his mind a piece at a time. He has an objective though. He plants some bombs to detonate in several hours, just enough time for him to get out of the city (and go where?) when, suddenly, he receives a video call from a fellow survivor.
But can he get to her before the bombs go off?
It's when he leaves the confines of his shelter and meets up with the two hard-boiled marine sorts that things start to go wrong.
Clearly nowhere near as good as I Am Legend, but here's the question you have to ask yourself: Is it 400 times worse than the Smith movie?
Is it?
Well, is it?
Thought not.
