Peter Jackson's epic fantasy, based on Tolkien's mighty tome, kicks off in fine style. Many said that 'The Lord of the Rings' was unfilmable in live action and, truthfully, that was probably the case until special effects technology reached the point it is at today.
Without razor sharp CGI the whole project could well have fallen flat. Imagine Gollum as an animatronic model, and shudder.
Setting new standards in film-making and finally proving, once and for all, that the geek shall indeed inherit the Earth, this is simply majestic.
I'm not going into the plot here as it is too complex, yet stupefyingly simple.
Good versus evil.
Quest to save a land from tyranny.
All that kind of jazz.
Brilliant.
