Edgar 'Shaun of the Dead', 'Spaced' Wright brings us another genre splicing comedy, this time set in rural England.

The plot:
Simon Pegg is an overly officious police officer, Nicholas Angel, seconded to a sleepy Gloucestershire village. Upon arrival, he finds that laws are frequently flouted and, coming down on the locals hard, finds himself falling foul of Jim Broadbent's Inspector Butterman.
Suddenly, a spate of murders begins, and Angel is keen to solve the mystery. All clues seem to point to slimy local businessman Simon Skinner (Timothy Dalton in fine, scenery chewing form), yet obstacles keep being placed in Angel's way, not the least of which being hampered by bumbling partner PC Danny Butterman, played by old pal Nick Frost.
Can Angel crack the case, or will he himself fall foul of the cloaked murderer stalking the countryside?

Wright, Frost and Pegg really have developed a style all their own.
Falling somewhere, tonally, between Shaun of the Dead and their earlier TV show Spaced, this successfully lampoons all aspects of cop movies, as well as throwing in some horror tropes, sci-fi elements and even the odd moment of surrealism.
Daft as a brush, without ever creaking over into that horrifying zone known as 'wacky' this is original, inspired and damned funny to boot.
Liked it a lot.
