Favourite line:"I kill a communist for fun, but for a green card, I gonna carve him up real nice."

Possibly Brian De Palma's best work, this is based (loosely) on a true story.

Al Pacino plays Tony Montana, a down and out Cuban immigrant into the United States who finds himself, wilfully, embroiled in the criminal underworld in Miami.
Working his way up from the bottom, this is all about his power struggle with his boss and, ultimately, his usurping of said boss as the main drug lord in the area.

Pacino's performance is wonderful, the direction searing, and the only slight flaw that could be placed on its shoulders now is a dated soundtrack. but, heh, if that's the worst you can say, that's pretty damn good.
Stunning, unflinching, violent and at times darkly comic, this is one of the greats.
Superb.
