Mark Wahlberg plays Bob Lee Swagger, sniper extraordinaire, convinced to return from his self imposed exile brought on by the death of his spotter for which he blames himself, to help prevent a presidential assassination.
Double-crossed, the assassination attempt goes ahead for real, with Swagger as the prime suspect, and he must work with a small team of confidants to find out the reason he was framed in the first place.
With action that is action packed, drama that is dramatic, and tension that is nothing but tense, this is a truly cinematic movie.
Wahlberg positively crackles as the lead man, betrayed by the country that he loves, and is ably supported by the always excellent Danny Glover, whose mere presence on screen is enough to instill life to a scene.
Whilst the movie may ultimately have one twist too many, this is a flaw easily overlooked, as the journey to the denoument is such a satisfying one.
A thriller with genuine thrills, this is a seriously good movie from a director who, with Training Day under his belt, though dubbed with a very silly name, does seem to know how to make a muscular action movie.
