Jet Li is something of an enigma here at Smell the Cult HQ.
Whilst we love it when he gets down to some chop-socky action, and whilst we love his cheeky chappy pock-marked face, he doesn’t half make some bad films.
Jason Statham is something of an enigma here at Smell the Cult HQ. Whilst we love it when he gets down to some serious beat 'em up action, and whilst we love his 'so Cockney it hurts' face, he doesn’t half make some bad films.
So here, as with The Expendables, that surprisingly good, Stallone-penned retro-actioner from earlier this year, the Stath and Li are united in a film so uniformly drab, dull and dreary I wanted to induce vomiting simply to relieve the tedium.

Essentially the film can be boiled down to this:
The Stath shouts a bit, then speaks in that menacing whisper, before banging a few heads together before clenching his jaw tight so that bit of muscle just below the ear throbs impressively.
Li, for his part, he's called Rogue, an assassin apparently, and he spends his time in the movie performing carefully choreographed and heavily edited fight scenes that Jackie Chan would be ashamed of, before waving a gun around a lot and occasionally whispering something cryptic.

I was so bored, I found myself online checking the cricket score between Bangladesh and Pakistan.
Yawn.
