As ever with Italian horror, the emphasis is much less on the plot than it is on the visual content, and this movie is no exception.
The basic premise is simple - a man returns to his old stomping ground to visit an ancestoral home, and inadvertantly reads aloud an incantation that brings said ancestor back to life to continue a violent killing spree.
It can happen to anyone.
The mood is claustrophobic, the direction amazing at times; never has a castle looked so damn menacing.
Overall, as with many in this field, this is a case of style over substance, but this is a good film nevertheless.
