Beautifully directed, intelligent, disturbing and with a - quite literally - explosive finale, this is quality horror through and through.
Sissy Spacek is simply stunning as the young girl tormented by both her dementedly religious and domineering mother and her classmates at high school.
Delivering vulnerability and ruthlessness with equal conviction, she was the perfect find for the role.
John Travolta also puts in an early appearance as a lowbrow rocker scumbag culpable in the events leadsing up to the shocking climax.
A great movie.
