I think everyone knows this one, even if they haven't actually seen it.
During the 90's this garnered quite the reputation - at least here in the UK as it was implicated in the killing of James Bulger - the kids who killed him had apparently seen this in the days prior to his death.
Hmmmm....
Anyway, what we have here is fairly typical slasher fare, the twist this time being that the knife wielding maniac is in fact a child's toy doll.
See, what happened was a murderous lunatic called Charles Lee Ray was hunted down one night by the Chicago PD, winds up trapped in a toy store and, instead of going down all guns blazing uses a strange form of voodoo to transfer his soul into one of the dolls up for sale. So now, he's still alive, but isn't likely to be discovered any time soon.
Problem is, he goes about things all wrong.
Instead of keeping his head down for a while 'til the heat cools off, he instead opts to kill the babysitter of the unfortunate child to whom he now belongs. Before long, the kid's being talked to by a head shrinker, the cops are back on his trail and it's business as usual, slice and dice fun for all the family.
The tension is well handled, the scenes of violence reasonably effective and, but for a rather silly ending involving a dismembered arm with the strength of a fucking rhino, it works in its own twisted way.
I'd watch it again.
