Favourite line:"We just cut up our girlfriend with a chainsaw. Does that sound 'fine'?"

Sam Raimi's demented follow up to the original horror masterclass that is The Evil Dead.
The comedy element is heightened here, and occasionally veers unnervingly towards 'zany', but manages to stay just this side of the line to be acceptable, as there is always a nice line in black humour to keep things on track.
Essentially, this is a remake of the original with a higher budget, but is no less satisfying for that truism.
There are some moments of sheer class - the dancing, headless corpse of Ash's girlfriend, the replacement arm in the shape of a vicious looking chain saw, the vortex camera shot as Ash lies in a puddle of mud, zombified - and the occasional moment of silliness - the animated hand which 'talks', the eyeball in the mouth shot - but above all else this is just an adrenaline ride, throwing a dizzying amount of action at the viewer, leaving you feeling slightly delirius by the hilarious end sequence, which comes as a real curve ball.
An undeniable classic.
