Starring: Does it matter?
Rating:3/5

Tagline:If Jason still haunts you, you're not alone!
Favourite line:"Now, I'm gonna tell all of ya, you mark my words, the next little bastard that comes near my farm, I'm gonn' blow your fuckin' brains out, you hear me?"

The logically titled fifth installment (well, 4 was The Final Chapter, after all) starts off with what appears to be a continuation of the last movie, with Tommy looking on in horror as Jason is resurrected by two feckless imbeciles defiling his grave. As luck would have it, it's only a dream, and Tommy is now all grown up, though he is still suffering. He's taken to a home for troubled teens, where he is forced to interact with other young people with emotional behavioural difficulties, with mixed results. Only one problem - a man in a hockey mask has started to slay people in the local area, and he homing in on the troubled teens cabin....
BIG SPOILER WARNING - DON'T READ ON IF IN DOUBT.
The conceit with this movie is the fact that Jason is not the killer. It's a crazed paramedic, using the legend of Jason as a cover, like a good Scooby Doo villain. Jason only appears as flashbacks or hallucinations on the part of Tommy, though that doesn't prevent this from being an effective slasher movie.
I have to say, it was a fairly brave move on the movie makers part, changing a winning formula in such a dramatic fashion, so kudos to them for that.
Enjoyable, and it would have got one more skull but for the annoying 'wackiness' of the slack jawed native characters Ethel and Junior.
