Tommy, the young man traumatised by the events of Part 4 is back and determined to ensure that Jason is truly dead. In order to facilitate this, he decides to dig up Jason's grave (quite foolish), and pokes the corpse with a big metal spike in the middle of a lightning storm (very foolish). Inevitably, a bolt of lightning slams into the spike, resurrecting Jason once again, rendering him a bona fide zombie for the first time in the series.
After this reasonably entertaining opening, it's downhill I'm afraid.
The wacky characters are back, to add a totally unnecessary element of 'comedy', and this time there are a bunch of squawking kids to deal with too.
The plotting is so awful I actually ended up fast forwarding most of it, and only really watched the scenes with Jason on screen.
Horror wise this is quite disappointing as well, as the death scenes are nothing to write home about.
The weakest of the series so far, and my hopes aren't high that seven or eight will be any better.
