Favourite line:"The firemen came and broke through the chimney top. And me and Mom were expecting them to pull out a dead cat or a bird. And instead they pulled out my father. He was dressed in a Santa Claus suit. He'd been climbing down the chimney..."

Wow, this is a great film.
Joe Dante's wickedly irreverent inversion of the standard Christmas movie sees Every Town, Nowheresville, USA suddenly overrun by vicious little critters that are spawned from a cute little pet creature called Mogwai, bought from an enigmatic wise oriental fella in Chinatown.
He warns the purchaser, but the rules he lays out are ultimately, though inadvertantly, ignored.
Sadistically entertaining, with some excellent set pieces and a nice line in black humour (Phoebe Cates' tale about her father getting stuck up the chimney and rotting is a hoot - see favourite line above) this should entertain most sentient beings. The Gremlins themselves are wonderful creations, scaly, evil looking and cruel.
Love it.
