I have to say this disappointed me a little.
I had heard so much about it, read the reviews, read the articles describing it along with the likes of Saw as 'Torture Porn', that I think I had raised my own expectations.
Not the fault of the film maker, but unavoidable nevertheless.
Anyway, the film itself is great once it gets going, and features some genuinely disturbing moments, as well as scenes of out and out outrageous sickness, which is to be approved of.
The let down really is the amount of time it takes to get started, and when a film is standard horror movie length, there's no real excuse.
The main characters are utterly detestable, which I think is deliberate, so the viewer is placed in the strange position of not really wanting any of the motherfuckers to survive. Truly, every single one of them deserves what they get (except the Japanese girl who doesn't do anything wrong), which provides its own sense of entertainment.
Overall, a good, modern horror movie, with a fairly decent plot - although it is really a variation on a much used theme - and enough macabre moments to satisfy the grisly hordes who watch this kind of thing, myself included!
