Favourite line:"Were you aiming for Dante's Third or Fourth Circle of Hell?"

Tobe 'Chainsaw Massacre' Hooper delivers a competent reimagining of a notorious slasher. Whilst the original is low budget, straight down the line slasher fare, here we have more of a supernatural take on things.

A young, professional couple move into a dilapidated apartment block and decide they need to spruce the place up. When one of their friends goes missing, their investigations discover a secret area of the building, a building within a building, if you like, where an ancient evil lurks, eager to claim fresh victims.

Whilst I can see the reason for adding a touch of spice to proceedings, the updates didn't quite work for me, losing the sheer simplicity of the source plot: man with toolbox murders women.
It's perfect setup to begin with, so why mess.
Scary at times, tedious at others, this is a lacklustre affair, and ultimately left me feeling slightly unsatisfied.
Still, as modern horror goes, it weren't 'alf bad.
Horror devotees only need apply.
