Well, the right wing media like to band around the phrase torture porn in reference to movies such as Hostel, Saw and, indeed, this one.
Sparking controversy upon initial release in its native Australia due to its likely impact on a still ongoing murder trial this movie, 'based on real events' is in fact nothing of the sort. In the same way that Texas Chain Saw and The Blair Witch claimed to be depictions of reality, this is purest fiction.
So what happens?

Three backpackers are making their way across Western Australia, on their way to Darwin in the Northern Territories when they have the misfortune of breaking down. Or did they?
Is it possible that their vehicle was deliberately sabotaged whilst they were filling up with petrol?
Course it was.
And their would be saviour, Bushtucker man Mick Taylor has plans for them way beyond repairing their automobile.

Intense, brutal and shockingly unrelenting, this shies not from portraying the suffering of the characters.
Cries of misogyny are inevitable and, perhaps, well founded but heh, of you want anaemic PC twaddle, go watch Disney.
Divisive critically, for every one labelling it torture porn another praised it for its daring approach, this certainly worked for me and, were it not for the crushingly slow build up - seriously, you can jump in after thirty minutes and not have missed. A. Thing, - this would have got top marks.
A great Aussie horror.
