Favourite line:"The pit is completely enclosed. And it's full of leathery objects, like eggs or something."

The original and many people's favourite - though I still have a soft spot for Aliens.
Taut and tense, this is the stuff of nightmares.

A lone salvage vessel is sent to an uninhabited planet, where they have the misfortune to encounter a hitherto unknown species, which incubates inside a living host before bursting free and taking on adult form, a perfect killing machine with one instinct - to destroy any life it encounters.

The chest-burster scene with John Hurt is now the stuff of cinematic legend, and the atmosphere and claustrophobia created by Ridley Scott is unparalleled.
An excellent movie.
