A singular masterpiece here.
Haunting, beautiful, emotional without being trite, as well as historically informative, this is a movie everyone should see.

Set in Japan during World War Two, this follows a brother and sister whose parents are killed during an American bombing raid at the start of the movie. Their struggles, feuds and, ultimately, unquestioning love for one another make for a story so touching, so moving, you must have a heart of stone not to have a tear in your eye by the end of it.

Anime is often a little silly, portraying scenes of over the top violence and general fantasy elements, but none of that is here.
This is an animated movie for the more mature audience, foregoing cheap thrills for riveting storytelling, and in depth analysis of the human condition.
Simply stunning.
