Every so often a movie comes along that redefines cinema for the next decade or so.
The Matrix is one such film.
The Wachowski brothers love of Japanese anime is blatant as they use state of the art technology to realise the kind of action sequences previously only possible in the aimated form of the art.
The plot is good too, even if it is a bastardisation of countless genre movies and TV shows past.
Keanu is cast to perfection, perfectly imbuing the reluctant hacker with the required sense of naivety and sense of wonder and bemusement.
Some stunning visuals, coupled with a script with the required level of portentious / pretentious (delete as you see fit) bombast makes this THE must see movie of the 90's.
Superb.
