A sequel that starts well before tailing off into tedium.
You know, the 1st movie, that kickstarted this particular franchise, was a sleeper hit that had real balls. On a relatively low budget, the director managed to convey the high octane world of street racing, as seen in Need For Speed: Most Wanted, as opposed to any semblance of reality. Nitrous oxide, bulging muscles, pimped up rides and men with a fondness for 'da bitches' were handled with, whilst not a deftness of touch, an assuredness that kept you hooked.
And they nearly pulled the same trick off again.

Paul Walker is back as the one dimensional Brian O'Conner, cop turned street racing addict. The movie starts with Brian being called on to win a race, which he duly does, before the cops arrive and feel his collar.
The deal: go undercover again, or face the consequences of your own rap sheet.
Not fancying several years in the slammer, Brian complies, and teams up with an ex-con who blames him for his convict status.
Then things start to go downhill.

Whilst the racing thrills and hijinx are still pulse poundingly exciting, here there is a foolish focus on 'plot' which makes one think of the 70's porno's which were also plot driven, despite the fact that all anyone was really interested in was seeing the ginger one slavering over the distended vagina of the blonde one.
Here, cars and car chases fill in for hardcore bootay action, but the dynamics remain the same: show us the cars, you prick teases.
With no Vin Diesel, a bigger budget and a change in director, it was almost inevitable it wouldn't quite have the same torque.
If the original was a mid-range Porsche, this one is a Mazda masquerading as a high end sports machine.
