Jeff bridges plays The Dude, one of the finest characters ever created for the big screen.
The Dude is a bum, drinking, smoking weed and bowling his life away. Unfortunately, he has a namesake, and this individual has come to the attention of a criminal gang. A case of mistaken identity ensues, and The Dude is dragged into a ridiculous plot line involving a Hispanic hood urinating on his rug, and his demands for the real Lebowski to compensate him for the unhygienic mistake. Add into this a trophy wife of the real, elderly Lebowski who has schemes of her own, and an over zealous, paranoid militaristic pschopath played with real relish by the always reliable John Goodman - not to mention Steve Buscemi's excellent wiry, nervous addition to proceedings - and this is a first rate, surrealistic, comedy thriller.
The Coen Brothers have never been better.
Superb.
