Rock solid crime thriller cum courtroom drama sees Jeff Bridges defended by a superb Glenn Close.
Bridges is accused of the murder of his wife and, as a high flying publishing executive, has plenty of clout, so hires Teddy Barnes (Close) to defend him, a defence attorney who has never lost a case, though she gave up practicing several years earlier. As the time they spend together becomes more intense, it soon becomes apparent that they are developing feelings for one another.
But is she defending a guilty man?
Or is he the subject of an elaborate frame?
Tense, taut and intriguing, even the romance element wasn't enough to knock this off a top rating spot.
The cast is uniformly excellent, the script sharp as a Blackadder put down, this is a superior slice of 80's cinema.
