Favourite line:"The blood from your whole body goes to your head... it stops there... never comes down. But soon, it will come out of your nose, your ears, and even your eyes... and then... you will die... Painfully."

Surprisingly good this, kids.
Jet Li in decent martial arts movie shocker? Yep, you read it here first.

Jet plays Jessica Kamen, an American woman working as a prostitute in Paris whose daughter is being held hostage by a nefarious Parisian gendarme.
Bridget Fonda plays Liu Jian, a Beijing cop working undercover to bring down the rogue policeman's organisation.
Inevitably Li and Fonda end up working together to rescue the daughter and take out the crime lord.
You'll be relieved to hear, much violence ensues.

Li is an affable enough hero, and Fonda a good sidekick, and there's some real chemistry on show. Li kicks some serious arse here, too, going all Jackie Chan on our asses as he makes use of impromptu objects from the environment to take out the bad guys, the finest example being a pair of fiercely hot clothes irons which scorch much flesh as he wields them.
With a nice line in humour throughout, this is a cut above your average martial arts thriller and, let's face it, it's always nice to see Burt Kwouk putting in an appearance.
If you like a bit of the old ultra violence, and don't mind the sight of blood, you could well enjoy this.
