Favourite line:"What do I get if I give you your balls back, you wop cocksucker?"

Curtis Hanson's stunning homage to the stylised film noir of the 50's, but this is very much a modern spin on the genre.

Three detectives, with wildly differing policing techniques, are assigned the same case- the slaying of known gang members - and each follows the case in their own inimitable style. Guy Pearce is the fresh faced, eager, by the book cop.
Kevin Spacey the detective desperate for notoriety and the wealth that fame will bring, and Russell Crowe, the violent, sleazy womaniser who thinks nothing of cracking a few skulls to get the job done.

Pulsing with imagination, with fine performances from all involved, this is one of the best movies of the nineties.
Simply superb.
