Another entertaining movie from Stephen Chow, he of 'Shaolin Soccer' notoriety and, again, he takes on both acting and directorial duties in this one.

Sing gets all Henry Hill on our asses, as he desperately wants to be a gangster and, in particular, he wants to join the much feared Axe Gang. To prove his worth he sets about trying to collect protection money from businesses in a Canton slum, fails dismally, and brings himself to the attention of the Axe Gang themselves, but for all the wrong reasons. Before long, he is forced to go undercover, and faces a moral dilemma as he has to choose between continuing his life of crime, or saving some innocent folk from the gang he once aspired to join.

Not as comedic as Shaolin Soccer, though it has its moments, this is an odd film, as the period setting feels a little forced.
Still, an entertaing way to pass an hour and a half, and better than the vast majority of Hollywood actioners being spunked forth into multiplexes the globe over.
Give it a chance.
