Favourite line:"For a nation of pigs, it sures is funny you don't eat'em! Jesus Christ forgave the bastards, but I can't! I hate! I hate you! I hate your nation! And I hate your people! And I fuck your sons and daughters because they're pigs! You're a pig! You're all pigs."

Intense and uncompromising adaptation, based on a true story, of a young American man caught attempting to smuggle cannabis out of Turkey.
The Turkish authorities set it up to mark him out as an example to others of what happens if you become involved in drug crime in their country, irrespective of your nationality. Morally ambiguous - should we sympathise with a drug smuggler? It was only cannabis, after all - or should our allegiance lie with the Turkish moral guardians, intent upon claiming the moral high ground.

Stunning performances, a wonderful soundtrack by Giorgio Moroder - who has worked on such eclectic fare as Scarface, Superman III and Flashdance! - and a real oppressive atnosphere throughout.
This isn't light viewing, but it certainly will make you think, and will definitely discourage you from going near the old Columbian Marlboro's when in Turkey.
