Favourite line:"Russia, what a fucking mess! God, I miss the cold war."

Rock solid action thriller that delivers everything you would hope for from the genre.

When a train collision sparks a nuclear detonation in the Russian Ural mountains, the US Intelligence soon determines that this was no mere accident, but was in fact a smokescreen to allow the theft of nine further nuclear devices being transported on one of the trains. Cue a globe-trotting plot as a crack squad, led by Kidman's Dr. Julia Kelly and Clooney's Lt. Col. Devoe, who have radically differing approaches to problem solving. Hers, negotiation and strategy, his shoot it, kill it, remove the problem.
The action takes us to a dizzying array of locations, most strikingly Vienna, as well as Turkey, Russia, Azerbijan before culminating in a race against time to stop a further detonation in New York.

Action packed and directed with efficiency, this also features a rollicking good score from Hans Zimmer.
Packing quite a punch and not flagging for a moment in its two hour running time, this is muscular movie-making indeed, from a female director no less.
Clooney and Kidman have a great rapport, with genuine chemistry and it is the charisma of the two central characters that really carries this through to the end.
Liked it.
