Another in a seemingly endless - currently at least - line of quality action thrillers from across the pond, Stateside.
As the title implies, this is a prison based series that follows the exploits of a group of inmates who plot and connive to liberate themselves from their incarceration.
So far, so mundane.
There's much more to it than that though:
The two primary characters are Michael and Lincoln, brothers in the same prison. Lincoln is in solitary confinement, and Michael has deliberately committed an armed robbery just to get put inside. Thing is, his entire body is covered in tattoos, that just happen to be comprised of the blueprints of the prison, along with instructions on how to get the hell out of dodge. What the prison authorities don't realise is that he actually helped design the prison, so has a little bit of insider knowledge.
It's all wildly implausible, but the characterisation is good, the script strong, and above all the surprises come at you thick and fast. Just as you think you know where the storyline is headed, they throw in a curveball and change things completely.
A likeable cast, a fast pace and enough twists to satisfy most, this is quality TV.
