Direct continuation from the first movie, this one sees Rocky determined not to fight and to devote his life to his family.
Things soon change, however, when they start to run out of money and, simultaneously, Apollo Creed is taunting him for a rematch to confirm that the first victory was no fluke. Inevitably, a rematch is scheduled, much to Adrian's annoyance.
The film lags a little in the middle as Adrian's pregnancy becomes the focus of attention, but once the training kicks in we are in cinematic heaven. Uplifting, energetic and life affirming, the final twenty minutes make it all worthwhile.
Whilst lacking the class of the original, this is still a fine example of feel-good cinema.
