The movie that made made Stallone into a megastar, and it's easy to see why.
The reputation of this movie has been somewhat tarnished by the ever decreasing quality of the sequels, but this is a superlative piece of movie making.
From the initial character building scenes where we see Rocky working as a debt collector for a local Philadelphia loan shark, to the interplay between himself and the woman he is chasing - Talia Shires in great form as Adrian - this is much more than the training scene montages that the later films opted for.
A film with real heart, and a strong message: anyone can do anything if their will is strong enough.
It may seem trite and naive in these difficult and complex times, but it is heart warming nevertheless.
The training scenes are good too, and the fight at the end has to be seen to be believed.
Stunning.
