Favourite line:"Klingon bastards have killed my son."

Much maligned third instalment of the original Trek series of movies, this one is a direct continuation of the magnificent Wrath of Khan.

Spock is gone, apparently dead, his body jettisoned into the atmosphere of the Genesis planet.
Lucky that.
Meanwhile, the Enterprise crew return to be debriefed about events leading up to the Vulcans' untimely demise whilst, simultaneously, a team of scientists head to the Genesis planet to see what happens when terraforming begins, one member of which is none other than Kirk's own son. The science team discover that natural processes have gone into overdrive on the planet, events that normally take many years occurring in mere days including, as fortune would have it, the resurrection of Spock himself from his own genetic material. As you can imagine, it's not long before the Enterprise crew have decided to steal the decommissioned Enterprise and are on their way to save the day.

And, despite it's reputation, the first three quarters of the movie is bloody great. Action packed, witty, energetic.
Then Spock takes centre stage and the whole thing grinds to a crushing halt.
Directed by Nimoy himself, this appears to be a work of self-congratulation as his ego takes over and he starts to believe that he actually is Spock. It's a real shame, as the events leading up to the finale are good enough. There is also the suspicion that the entire end sequence is for fan boys only and would leave anyone other than die hard Trekkers stone freakin' cold.
Verdict: not as bad as I expected, but painfully slow towards the end.
