A welcome return to the dark, sinister side of Trek after the abominable bit of fluff that was Insurrection.

This one introduces us to a new species, The Remans, a cousin of The Romulans, though even more objectionable. Violent and paranoid, as well as being extraordinarily ugly, it all reminds me of the mosh pit at a Cannibal Corpse gig. Anyhow, Picard meets the leader of the Remans, a very human looking creature who lays claim to desiring peace between the Federation and the Romulans and Remans, but there is much more to his intent than that:
He's a human clone, taken from Picard's own genetic material who in reality intends to obliterate Earth and spark a new war between The Federation and their new found, though distrusted allies.

The direction is moody and atmospheric, the special effects top-notch, though it didn't do particualrly well at the box office, which is a shame as they may well shy away from 'darkness' in future in favour of more viewer friendly fodder.
Dolts.
