The rebirth of Star Trek was much anticipated by most sci-fi fans and, fair to say, it didn't disappoint, effectively recreating the essence of the original, this is a simple modernisation of the concept. Yes, the effects are better, but that aside much of the earlier material could have been lifted from the original Star Trek, and indeed, a couple of scripts were re-used, and an original scriptwriter was even submitting storylines.
Patrick Stewarrt made the role of Captain Picard his own, no mean feat considering that he was following in the iconic Captain Kirk's footsteps.
There's a good mix of new and returning villains, a greater sense of character development and, as the show progressed, a far superior sense of maturity to proceedings.
The last series is a bit of a let down, as series 3-6 are superb.
All in all, an excellent sci-fi show.
