Paul Verhoeven's sci-fi extravaganza is like a cross between Robocop, Aliens and Zulu, blurring the line between satire and storytelling, and is a fine commentary on the military throughout - see the desk sergeant signing up the new recruits. "Infantry made me the man I am today" as he wheels back to reveal he has no legs.
Blood thirsty, darkly comic and politically aware, this is a superior slice of sci-fi hokum.
The special effects are simply dazzling, and the scenes with the humans fighting the insect hordes have to be seen to be believed.
Engagingly silly.
