Favourite line:"'Cause I'm a karate man, see! And a karate man bruises on the inside! They don't show their weakness."

Entertaining and intelligent comedy from the 80's.

Eddie Murphy is excellent asValentine, the down and out street bum who becomes embroiled in a twisted bet by the two owners of a large stockbroking company. They wager, for the princely sum of $1, that they can turn him into a blue chip professional, whilst at the same time turning one of their employees into a criminal vagrant.

The set up is smart and funny in places, though not consistently laugh out loud it has to be said.
Much of the humour comes from the sadistic ruthlessness of the old codgers behind the scam.
Dan Akroyd is equally good as the beleaguered executive, whose life is rapidly falling apart. A little over the top at times (the gorilla sequences spring to mind) but otherwise a satisfying and highly enjoyable romp.
And the ending is just superb.
Entertaining.
